President

Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA)

Profile Summary

Mohammad Hatem, Executive Board member of ICC Bangladesh, The world business organization and the President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Managing Director of MB Knit Fashion, stands as a central, stabilizing leader in Bangladesh's Ready-Made Garment (RMG) industry.

Born in Cumilla and educated at Dhaka University, Hatem began his career at the grassroots level and went on to become a founding Director of BKMEA, serving across various executive leadership roles over several decades.

Beyond BKMEA, his extensive institutional leadership includes roles as President of the Exporters Association of Bangladesh (EAB), board member of the RMG Sustainability Council (RSC) and the International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh (ICCB), independent director of CPGCBL, and member of the national Zakat Board.

Hatem has been instrumental in bridging private enterprise with public policy, shaping national trade, fiscal, and labor regulations—including key contributions to the Bangladesh Labour Act amendments and the Bangladesh Labour Rules. During the volatile transitional period following August 5, 2024, he played a crucial crisis-management role by initiating tripartite dialogues between factory owners, unions, and government mediators to preserve job security, prevent strikes, and uphold supplier reliability.

His policy advocacy extended to securing fuel subsidy mechanisms for factory power generators, streamlining customs delays, and successfully driving the policy to increase alternative cash incentives from 1.5% to 5% for RMG exports utilizing locally sourced materials.

Alongside his industrial contributions, Hatem is deeply committed to youth empowerment, education, and community leadership through his involvement with various academic boards, alumni networks, and civic organizations like the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and JCI Bangladesh. Upholding a family legacy of ethical service, he continues to champion sustainable growth, worker safety, green technologies, and digital transformation in Bangladesh's apparel sector.
